Soon after Turkey’s february 1997 military intervention, Hilal and Fatma left their town near Ankara to study at the state university in Istanbul. A new law bars Fatma from entering the campus if she wears her religious head scarf. Meanwhile, Feza who lives downstairs in their lodgings, has fled her own village where she was cruelly bullied for being a transgender woman. Hilal chooses to help Feza and Fatma. Against all odds, brought together in their struggles for their rights, the three become friends.
